VerifyKE - A Misinformation & Disinformation Toolkit

This toolkit serves two major purposes:

  1. The first is as a central location for research about electoral mis/ disinformation and as a call to action
for various stakeholders in Kenya. Not only does the toolkit collect and condense existing research from various  institutions and media organizations, but it also adds new insight to the conversation. In preparation for creating this toolkit, the authors conducted extensive interviews with academics, government officials, and journalists in Kenya to better understand the electoral information landscape. Those interviews, as well as the results from an anonymous survey of young people, form the basis of the background section, which will hopefully provide useful context for the toolkit. They also inform the recommendations found at the end of the research section.
  2. The second purpose is to create and introduce practical resources that can equip Kenyan young people
(and related communities) with the tools to identify and respond to mis/ disinformation. The practical resources serve as a complement to the formal tone of the research section, and they include everything from activities to improve media literacy to information that influencers can share online to encourage greater awareness about misinformation
